9 Out Of 10 Patients In Karachi Show No Signs Of Coronavirus: AKU Report
A recent study conducted in Agha Khan University revealed that 9 out of 10 coronavirus patients in Karachi. The city happens to be the epicenters and patients are mostly asymptomatic.
The samples for the study were taken from the residents from areas which had both high and low transmission rate. 95% of those who tested positive for the coronavirus through blood tests reported no symptoms.
The strain in the hospitals of Pakistan is not that strong as in other countries like the USA and Spain because most of the patients do not show any sign. Therefore most of them do not require any treatment.
"Antibody testing or seroprevalence provides a true picture of the burden of Covid-19 as they capture asymptomatic cases who represent silent carriers of the disease," said Dr. Fyezah Jehan, a co-researcher.
"Understanding how, when and in what types of settings, Covid-19 spreads is critical to developing effective public health and infection prevention measures to break chains of transmission."
The study concluded that 11% of the population had contracted the disease.
