Everything You Need To Know About China Coronavirus


Coronavirus outbreak has killed 80 people and 2700 new cases have been confirmed in China. China has been finding new ways to tackle the situation. The origin of the outbreak has been identified as the Wuhan seafood market.

The government has locked down a dozen cities so far to control the increasing number of cases. The vast majority of cases reported have been in Wuhan and nearby cities in Hubei province.

Here is what you need to know about this deadly virus:

World Health Organization (WHO) has revealed that coronaviruses are a family of diseases that can range from a cold to severe diseases like Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

Such viruses are transmitted from animals to human beings, for example, SARS has been recorded to be transferred from cat to human beings. In the same way, camels have been known as the transmitters of MERS. Many other coronaviruses are circulating in cats and dogs which are not transferred in human beings yet.

The virus can be transferred from one human to another.

Symptoms of Coronavirus:

These symptoms have been identified by the World Health Organization (WHO):

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of Breath

Treatment of the disease may take 10 to 14 days.

Is It Deadly?

Many believe that the present virus is not as deadly as SARS and MERS. Both of these viruses had widespread and killed hundreds of people around the world.

What steps are being taken to stop this virus from spreading?

So far, no vaccine has been developed for the virus. However, they have stopped transportation from the origin of the outbreak i.e. Wuhan. Residents cannot leave the city without any permission and flights to the region are being suspended.

Airport around the world have adopted screening technology and are trying to evacuate their nationals from Wuhan.

Which countries have confirmed coronavirus?

  • Australia-Australia has reported 4 cases so far. All the affected patients had arrived from China and were being cured in isolation in the local hospitals. People who were on board with the affected patients were contacted to take protective measures.
  • China- China has the largest number of outbreaks which is 2700 people. It is being identified as the origin of the virus. The lunar celebrations are being canceled for this year because of the widespread virus.
  • France– France is the only European country to have confirmed coronavirus cases. Three people have been diagnosed who recently came back from China.
  • Japan-Three cases have been reported so far and two of these cases were visiting China.

Is this a global emergency?

WHO has not labeled the situation as a global emergency. However, China has been strictly instructed to take its protection measures so that disease does not spread.

China Coronavirus in Pakistan

On January 25, it was reported that four suspects have been reported. Samples for the test to diagnose have been taken and sent to China since Pakistan is not fully equipped. One case was reported in Multan which was later turned down by  Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health.
