Govt Officials Of Gilgit Claim The City Is 'Finally Free Of COVID-19'
Government officials of Gilgit declared the city as "finally become COVID-19 free" on Wednesday.
The Gilgit Deputy Commissioner announced this news in a tweet and showed the daily situation report for COVID-19 released by the Provincial Emergency Operation Centre of Gilgit-Baltistan's health department.
The Secretary of Gilgit Baltistan's Home Department Muhammad Ali Randhawa praised and thanked God for the development by saying "Alhamdulillah", in response to the tweet.
Gilgit shows zero new cases as stated by the daily situation report, since the coronavirus pandemic, Gilgit-Baltistan accumulatively has witnessed a total of 4,912 cases in the region out of which 4,794 people have recovered, while 102 people have expired.
Pakistan has recorded 549,038 coronavirus cases in the country, in total. 504,046 have recovered, while 11,802 people have died due to corona.
The country recorded 1,384 new cases and 56 deaths; the positivity ratio was recorded at 4%.
In contrary to this, Gilgit-Baltistan has reported the highest COVID-19 positivity rates in the country in the month of September 2020.
As reported by the World Health Organization (WHO), the test positive percentage in Gilgit Baltistan reached as high as 16.1% on September 24, 2020.
