Pfizer vaccine to be given only to immunocompromised: Dr. Faisal Sultan
Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Health Dr. Faisal Sultan stated that only people with weak immune systems will be vaccinated with Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine.
According to the health official, the centre has started the distribution of the Pfizer vaccine to provinces and federal units, which reached Pakistan last month. The Ministry of Health will shortly release further details about the immunocompromised on the official portal, he added.
The premier's assistant stated that the federal government was distributing 51,000 doses of the vaccine, and it had received 106,000 doses of the vaccine through COVAX.
While discussing the province-wise breakdown of the distribution, Dr. Faisal stated that Punjab will get 26,000 doses of the mRNA vaccine while Sindh will receive 12,000 doses.
According to him, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been given 8,000 doses whereas Balochistan has been sent 2,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
A total of one thousand doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be sent to the cities including Islamabad, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, he elaborated.
Dr. Faisal further stated that the Pfizer vaccine will be used to vaccinate people throughout 15 cities of Pakistan, with these cities had ultra-cold freezers.
