Sindh To Buy 20 Million Covid-19 Vaccine Doses From China

The Sindh Health Department has announced on Monday that the provincial government is going to buy 20 million Covid-19 vaccine doses from China.

Earlier Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, Health Minister of Sindh Government met with the Consul General Li Bijian of China, where they discussed the matter of purchasing Sinopharm vaccine from China. During this meeting, matters like training of healthcare professionals and transfer of technology related to health were also discussed.

In addition to the Health Minister, Secretary Health Dr. Kazim Jatoi was also part of the meeting with the Chinese Consul General in Karachi.

Dr. Pechuho said that we need more vaccines to save the lives of the people of Sindh.

“It was agreed (in the meeting) that the Sindh government will buy 20 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine from China and that doctors and paramedical staff will be sent there for training in traditional Chinese medicine,” stated a health department spokesperson, as quoted by Dawn.

The Chinese Consul General promised his complete support, he said he will forward the request regarding the transfer of health technology to his government.

Health Minister appreciated the attempts of the Chinese government in supporting Pakistan in its combat against Covid-19. She also requested China to set up hospitals and other healthcare facilities in Sindh.

Sindh started its Covid-19 vaccination drive on 3rd February. There were 12 facilities set up across Sindh to vaccinate individuals, out of these ten of them are centered in Karachi alone.

In the five days of the Covid-19 vaccination drive in the province, overall 16,948 health professionals have been vaccinated so far.

Meanwhile, cases of coronavirus have also started to significantly decline in the past few days. The province has reported a total of 251,434 cases of coronavirus, and out of these 19,354 are active cases.
