World Bank Appreciates Pakistan's Efforts To Combat COVID-19

Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Khusro Bakhtiar and a delegation of high-level officials, met with the senior management of World Bank Group in two consecutive virtual meetings, these meetings are part of the 2020 Annual Meetings of World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund.

Hartwig Schafer, Vice President of World Bank Group for South Asia Region started by appreciating Pakistan for its efforts to successfully fight and curb the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.

He also praised the government for its ongoing reform efforts especially in the sectors of governance, power, and financial sectors. They appreciated it saying it would help Pakistan to grow to its potential and fasten recovery from Covid-19.

The VP assured Pakistan of continuous support from World Bank to the GOP in these difficult times. They discussed both potential WB projects in the future as well as WB’s current ongoing initiatives in Pakistan.

The federal minister assured the World Bank of the government’s commitment towards structural reforms in various areas in economy and governance. Bakhtiar also appreciated World Bank’s support to Pakistan.

He also praised the World Bank’s proposed initiative of $12Bn for the developing countries, to get the COVID-19 vaccine procured as soon as the drug is available.
