‘Zainab Alert Bill’ Passed By National Assembly.
Zainab Alert, Recovery and Response Bill, 2019, is passed by the national assembly on Friday. The bill was presented by Shireen Mazari in June 2019. The National Assembly finally passes the bill on the same date on which 9-year-old rape-murder victim Zainab Ansari’s body was found in Kasur Two years ago. The Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari took it to twitter saying that she hopes that the Senate will pass the bill at earliest to properly implement this law.
Shireen Mazari while addressing the house thanked Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Asad Umar and National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights Chairperson Mahreen Razaque Bhutto for expediting the bill’s passage. She said that the passage of the bill makes the day historical.
Member National Assembly NA-208 Nafisa Shah congratulates all the members of national assembly and pleas that the rule and policies made in the assembly house should be implemented. She narrated the details about how this law going to work. She said that the trial will be completed within three months, Well We hope this is going to work this way!!
In 2018, Zainab’s rape and murder case followed by a number of minors raped and murdered in Kasur and around the country has to lead to outrage and protests across the country. Zainab’s case was the twelfth such incident to occur within a 10-kilometer radius in the city over a 12-month period.
The powers and functions of Zarra include the activation of alerts at the federal capital level whenever there is a report about a missing or abducted child. These alerts will include information on the physical characteristics of the missing or abducted child as well as any other data that will help in the child’s identification.
A helpline (1099) will also be made to specifically report such cases.
