Train Operations Resumes Today!

Train operation that was on halt for more than two months is finally resuming from today. Railway Minister, Shiekh Rasheed Ahmed after getting approval from the Prime minister, announced about the resumption of train service.

On Monday, Shiekh Rasheed met PM Imran Khan to discuss the transport realted issues. Train operations were suspended on March 25 due to the spread of the novel coronavirus.

However, today, after nearly two months, first trains, the Pakistan Express, left Rawalpindi for Karachi and Lahore in the morning. Furthermore, as informed by the railway minister, PM Imran Khan has approved to operate 30 trains from May 20.

All standard operating procedures would be followed strictly during the train operation, assured the railway minister.

“Action will be taken against regional superintendent over violation of SOPs,” 

Moreover, Sheikh Rasheed announced that ticket prices will also be reduced by 50-60 per cent once trains resume operations. However, tickets can only be booked online. He further said that Railways will operate more trains from June 1, if the Covid-19 situation in the country gets better.
