Firdous Ashiq Awan Consults Islamic Scholars For Devising Journalism Ethics

Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Information and Broadcasting has taken an initiative to discourage fake news in order to protect national integrity. For this, she invited religious scholars to throw light on how it can harm society.

She said that national interests should come before everything. “National interest was linked with national narrative which needed to be promoted and protected by all stakeholders including media,” she said.

She further made it clear that PTI government also believes in freedom of expression and understands media should be indulged in the prosperity of the country. Social media according to Awan is a great awareness tool but there are times it can be used for disrupting socio-economic values.

She also informed the audience that the prices of basic commodities will decrease more this month.
