In the midst of a global pandemic, when the whole world is going through a crisis every little contribution matters. People around the world are joining hands and doing their part to make a difference in any way.
Talking about making a difference, how could we forget mentioning Umer Hussain, owner of Sweet tooth. No matter the world knows him as an owner of a food chain restaurant. He started this journey sticking to what he does professionally. But soon he realized that this is not it, he needs to do more. AND THEN THE JOURNEY BEGAN!
Mr. Hussain told through a Facebook post that initially, he was delivering free of cost food to paramedics in order to acknowledge their services. But, after interacting with them he realized that there is a real issue that needs to be addressed. Doctors and medical staff are actually worried because they do not have protective suits. Then this happened next:
LOW PRICE PPE KITS!
As the number of coronavirus cases is rising day after day, and there are fewer resources so are less facilities available. Be it kits and protective suits for paramedic staff or other equipment in hospitals. Pakistan is struggling to cope with the shortage.
In the meanwhile, Mr. Umer Hussain took a step forward and started stitching protective suits that will cost no more than PKR 200 each. Suits available in the market sold by other companies are costing more than PKR 2500, revealed Mr. Umer. He is also making masks as an alternative of N-95 masks that have become a rare item since the outbreak of COVID-19.
He has mentioned a breakdown of the cost of each PPE Kit.
- Fabrication (Water resistant) : 50gsm- 96″ width
- Buying at 61Rs/mtr
- Consumption : 1.8mtr/pc
- Accessory (elastic+zip+polybag+carton+thread): 20 RS/pc
- Stitching: 20 RS
- Cutting + packing labour + Overhead : 40Rs
- Total cost(with everyone paid in cash and fabric purchased at a higher price): 189 Rs
Mr. Umer informed that certain big names have joined him in the cause, mentioning the following,
- ATS is on board supporting with plastic
- Denim plus- is on board stitching with 50 machines
- Lathertex- is on board will start producing from Monday 30 machines – expandable to 100 machines
- US apparel is on board- starting as soon as we get samples approved- biggest producers in Pakistan-
- Tauseef enterprises Fsd – huge capacity!
The First consignment of free PPE kits is delivered to Jinnah Hospital Lahore. And, they are making new kits with a capacity of 6000 pieces per day. And as informed by him, the first 25000 above kits will be free. Well, THIS IS HUGE.
