Woman Plays Violin During Her Brain Surgery

British woman, played the violin while doctors were removing her brain tumor at King’s College Hospital in London. Dogma Turner who is 53 played violin during the whole surgery of the tumor for which she has been getting treatment since 2013. The hospital issued a statement for explaining the purpose of why the surgery was performed in such a different scenario according to which, ” ensure areas of the patient’s brain responsible for delicate hand movement and coordination.”

The video shows the surgery being performed by a professor Keyoumars Ashkan and a team and was observed by anesthetists and therapists. Turner has her eyes closed while she is playing the violin.

The process started with doctors opening the turner’s head when she was under anesthesia and then waking her up. Then she was asked to play the violin while doctors removed her tumor.

The tumor was located in the right frontal lobe of her brain, close to an area that controls the fine movement of her left hand,” which she uses to play the violin.

Turner plays violin in Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra. The tumor was also discovered through an attack during a symphony.

Ashkan said, ” We knew how important the violin is to Dagmar so it was vital that we preserved function in the delicate areas of her brain that allowed her to play.” He also told in a statement that 90% of the tumor has been removed along with the suspicious areas.

Ashkan also revealed that 400 tumors have been removed at King’s College Hospital but no patient has ever played an instrument. More so, Keyman often performs surgery waking patients up to make them perform the language test.

Turner was good enough to return home after three days to her husband and 13 years old son.
