95,000 Kilos Of Unsterilized Hospital Wastage Sold To Plastic Factories Illegally

A health official has revealed that since there is no proper system of disposing the hospital garbage, 100 tones of this garbage is stolen from outside the hospital on daily basis as reported by Express Tribune.

“There are designated sites in Lahore where this hazardous waste is dumped without segregation or sterilisation,” he explained, adding, “There are no laws regarding its proper disposal, just some standard operating procedures (SOPs) that too are often undermined, posing a grave health risk to anyone exposed to the contaminants.”

There are few speculations of this garbage provided to plastic manufacturers who can turn it into containers or toys. Since they are not sterlized, they can cause some deadly diseases such as hepatitis, HIV, and  even cancer.

“These plastic factories are situated at corners of the Lahore and their employees collect hospital garbage, including drips, injections and other infected plastic items,” a senior hospital official informed The Express Tribune.

It has been found out that 95,000 kilograms of garbage is provided to plastic factories illegally.
