Army Chief Extension Notification Suspended by SC despite PM’s Approval.

Supreme Court of Pakistan suspends the notification confirming extension in tenure of General Qamar Javed Bajwa. In petition hearing lead by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Asif Saeed Khooso a three-member bench suspended the notification on Tuesday. So, all parties and Chief of Army staff himself will receive the notification issued.

However in August 19, Prime Minister of Pakistan had approved a three-years extension in COAS’s tenure. However, COAS retirement is due on November 29th.

Jurist Foundation filed a petition against the Army Chief’s tenure extension. The petition said only President could approve the extension in tenure. So, the foundation appealed to declare the extension null and void. But, the CJP rejected the application and took suo motu notice under 184(3) clause of the constitution.

However, the court has adjourned the hearing till Wednesday.
