Christina Koch, NASA astronaut has made the record of longest-ever single spaceflight by a woman. She has spent almost a year at the International Space Station. The Russian Soyuz Spacecraft touched the ground of Kazakhstan ay 9:12 GMT.
She has broken the record of Peggy Whilston who has spent 289 days in space. The record was beaten with a difference 39 days since Koch spent 328 days on in the space.
Koch has completed 5248 orbits of Earth and traveled 139 million miles. She landed with two of her fellow crew members the Italian European Space Agency astronaut Luca Parmitano and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Skvortsov.
After surpassing the record of 59-year-old Whiston, Koch called her a mentor and heroine of her life. However, Peggy Whilston still holds the record of the longest time spent on space.
While talking to NBC, she said that she is going to miss microgravity. She added It´s really fun to be in a place where you can just bounce around between the ceiling and the floor whenever you want.”
Her record of 328 is to be beaten by future space travelers now. Christina Koch wants to inspire the future generation of space explorers.
