IREN Makes The Largest Recovery Of 1290 Smuggled Cartons of Cigarettes

1290 cartons of cigarettes have been Recovered in Karachi by the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR’s) Inland Revenue Enforcement Network (IREN). They were discovered from a warehouse.

 This recovery was worth 80 million which is the largest so far in Pakistan’s history as claimed by Asem Iftikhar.

They were discovered from a warehouse. The employees present at the warehouse failed to provide the legal documents for the confiscated cigarettes when sought by the team,” said Iftikhar. He informed us that the finance department was losing almost 1 billion dollars because of the smuggling of cigarettes.

Iftikar also revealed that the smuggled cigarettes did not pay an amount of Rs35.64 million in Federal Excise Duty and Rs27.38 million in sales tax.

All the people involved in the smuggling will have to pay consequences since a proper case has been registered.
