Misbah ul Haq! A Good Coach or a Good Selector?

Legacy of Misbah was phenomenal, one of the greatest cricketer and the best Test Captain Pakistan has ever produced after Imran Khan. As a cricketer and captain Misbah’s performance statistics speak louder than words. Under Misbah, Pakistan reached the No.1 test team in “ICC Ranking”. He was the first captain to beat South Africa in ODI bilateral series in South Asia.

Can a Successful Captain Be a Successful Coach?

It’s too early to assess if he can be a good coach or not. However,  the odds are against him after the performance of a team in the first home series against Srilanka. Yes, he is truly a great gentleman and a great player but time will tell whether he is a good coach or not.  Pakistan recently won 3-match ODI series against second-string Sri Lankan team and lost 3-matches T20 series. So far it’s been poor start from a great captain to start his new inning. But he is a strong character and we all hope Pakistan does well under him.  As a coach, Misba’s next assignment will be 2 Test Series in Australia which will not be easy for him and the team of Pakistan.

Is He a Good Selector?

No! So far Misbah’s selection has been questionable. Recalling Ahmed Shehzad & Umer Akmal was a big mistake. Since it was first-ever full series in Pakistan after the terror attack in 2009, he should have given the opportunity to young and new talent so that the Pakistani team can prepare a good beach strength before T20 World Cup next year.
