Prime Minister Imran Khan plans to install scanners at all crossing points and trading stations. The approved project is worth €250. The main purpose of this project is to stop illegal trading activities originating from the Afghan border.
Federal Board of Revenue has revealed that this project was supposed to be incorporated under the previous government era. however, PM Imran Khan approved this plan in a special meeting on Sunday.
This project will have three phases between April 2020 and December 2020. This project will focus on installing scanners on each and every crossing point including Torkham and Chaman border.
Special Committee has been formulated for that purpose. This committee will initiate the project PC-1 for approval.
This decision to formulating a committee was made by Imran Khan himself in the special meeting. This committee will have members from different professions including IT, commerce, finance, and telecom.
South Asia Pakistan Terminal Port (SAPT), Torkham and Chaman borders are those places where scanners will be installed first.
In the second phase, Karachi Port Terminal (KPT), Torkham and Chaman checkpoints, and Gawadar will be covered and four cameras will be installed.
The third phase will begin in December 2020. This phase will cover the areas — Ghulam Khan, Kharlachi Lahore, and Sust borders. Imported goods from India and Iran will also go through the major scan which will be mandatory.
