PM Imran Khan To Launch Clean Green Index Today And It Is A Championship

Clean Green Pakistan Index (CGPI), the first barometer to measure the cleanliness and green character of the different city will be launched today. PM Imran Khan will launch the program which aims at improving the overall green and clean outlook of the country.

According to  Malik Amin Aslam, the adviser on climate change, this outlook will be maintained by starting a competition between different cities on the ground of a few environmental indicators.

This competition will be held between 19 different cities of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the first phase which will be for six months. The various indicators on the ground of which cities will be judged are- sustainable public access to clean drinking water, safe sanitation, effective solid waste management and tree plantation as reported by Pakistan Today.

Aslam added that Rs700 Billion is lost in the health, environmental and socio-economic damages because of no access to clean water, deforestation, environmental degradation, wastewater, and poor treatment facilities.

While talking to media he said, “Tackling these challenges by initiating competition among Pakistani cities, which are witnessing the growing exodus from rural areas, to improve green and clean outlooks is the pivotal objective of the CGPI rolled out in consultation with relevant government and non-governmental and international stakeholders.”

The grand launch will be attended by a number of political and non-political significant figures including ministers, ambassadors, students, provincial government officials. This effort is much needed considering the prevailing hazardous Smog levels in Lahore.
