The Government has Decided to Construct International Airport in Skardu, to promote tourism on international and national levels.
To promote tourism and meets the needs of international tourists, the federal government has decided to construct International Airport in Skardu, and will also upgrade the existing airports in Skardu and Gilgit to all-weather airports. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Fawad Chaudhry, announced on Tuesday.
He also said that “Prime Minister Imran Khan has strictly directed to keep all airports linked with tourism operational through the year”.
Currently, there is a domestic civil airport in Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan. Skardu airport has two asphalt runways, one 8,740 ft (2,664 m) long and the other 11,944 ft (3,641 m) long.

Skardu, along with Gilgit, are the major tourism, trekking, and expedition hubs in Gilgit-Baltistan. Skardu valley is enriched with resorts, lakes, a fort, and a cold desert all of which together are the epitome of beauty. The amazing natural feature makes it one of the best places to visit in Pakistan. If any of you visit Skardu, You must visit Cold Desert which is one of the most unique feature of the Skardu.
By taking this step, Government presents the real beauty of Skardu internationally. And this also promotes tourism at the international and national levels.
