Turkey Sent Aid to Pakistan to Combat Locust Invasion.

Amidst the coronavirus crisis, Pakistan is exposed to another challenge that is Locust Swarms. Turkey has offered its expertise to Pakistan to combat the locust invasion that is destroying crops and leading Pakistan to severe food shortage in coming years.

Reportedly, a purpose-built Piper Brave spray aircraft along with four crew members are handed over to Pakistan Airforce by Turkey’s Capital Ankara. A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) C-130 aircraft arrived at Adana, Turkey on Wednesday to airlift purpose-built Piper Brave spray aircraft. However, it will be landed in Pakistan today.

The aircraft was airlifted to Pakistan from Turkey’s southern province of Adana, said a PAF statement.

“Turkey and Pakistan are all weather friends and this gesture would help improve a comprehensive pest control system to overcome the locust plague,” the statement added.

Reportedly, the aircraft was handed over to PAF on Wednesday. However, the aircraft would be assembled before its departure for the pest infected areas in the country Especially in southern Sindh and northeastern Punjab, the PAF said.

“The use of the aircraft will be effective in eradicating locusts from the country,” said says a representative of National disasters management authority. He further informed that the aircraft has been leased for six months for aerial spray in locust-affected areas.

Moreover, Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Syed Mohammad Ali Hussaini also offered joint cooperation to Pakistan. The ambassador has stressed the need for the two countries to increase budget and regional cooperation to fight this common threat.
