Chinese Firms Express Interest in Petrol-to-Electric Car Business in Pakistan
Chinese companies are exploring investment in Pakistan, particularly in petrol-to-electric vehicle conversions and green projects like electric buses and waste-to-energy plants. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has pledged full support to facilitate these initiatives in Karachi.
Chinese Firms Express Interest in Petrol-to-Electric Car Business in Pakistan
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah met with a delegation of Chinese investors, led by Belt and Road (B&R) Group Chairman Mr. Wan Xiaowu, on Tuesday to discuss private Chinese investment in Karachi. Minister joined the CM for Planning & Development and Energy Nasir Shah, Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, Chairman P&D Najam Shah, and Secretary to the CM Raheem Shaikh.
During the meeting, the chief minister highlighted the potential benefits of Chinese investment in Pakistan's energy and infrastructure sectors. He expressed his government's willingness to support Chinese public and private firms in investing in various projects across Sindh. He mentioned that companies are welcome to either invest independently or enter into Public-Private Partnerships with the provincial government.
Chairman B&R Group Mr. Wan Xiaowu revealed that over 12 leading Chinese firms have shown interest in Karachi. Their focus areas include waste-to-energy projects, wastewater treatment, desalination plants, electric bus manufacturing, and conversion kits for petrol motorcycles to electric power. Additionally, they are keen on participating in the reconstruction of the city's sewerage system.
CM Murad Ali Shah reiterated the Sindh government's commitment to support the Chinese investors. He assured them that all necessary facilities would be provided to help establish their operations. Both parties agreed to convene another meeting with the Planning & Development Department and the Board of Investment to finalize projects and begin work.
