A fake app loaded with malware is targetting Pakistan’s military and government. This malware has been identified by the Canadian company, Black Berry in a report released on Wednesday.
This fake app offers news about Kashmir which has a communication blackout from August 16, 2019.
According to the Associated Press, this malware has a spying campaign attempting to steal sensitive data from the mobile devices of significant officials. However, Black Berry has not identified the responsible source for the campaign but did give the probability of state-sponsored hacking groups beings involved.
Such apps often use Google’s Android operating system and use email and social media messaging such as WhatsApp for distribution.
This report by Black Berry has also identified other countries being targetted by the malware spying campaigns. These countries included China, Iran, Vietnamese, and North Korea.
