German zoo has taken an extreme decision of feeding a few of the resident animals to other animals because of the declining revenues and disrupted supply chains. So far, the decision has not been implemented yet.

However, if the financial condition does not change, the zoo will have to follow the plan.

The Neumünster Zoo in northern Germany is home to 70 animals and has more than 100 species. It has not been decided which animals will be slaughtered to cut down the expenses.

“Though it’s unclear which animals would be slaughtered first, a polar bear named Vitus – which stands nearly 12 feet tall – would be the last animal to go”, Zoo director Verena Kaspari said.

“If – and this is really the worst, worst case of all — if I no longer have any money to buy feed, or if it should happen that my feed supplier is no longer able to supply due to new restrictions, then I would slaughter animals to feed other animals,” the director added.

A letter has also been written to the government of the country in which it has been identified that caring for animals is still very expensive. Some of the animals belong to endangered species and are a part of international breeding programs.

Germany has a death toll of 3,569 and there are 130,450 confirmed cases which means that the country is in serious lockdown issues.
