UN has warned that the hottest weather is going to hit 2020. UN said on Wednesday that much extreme weather in comparison to the last decade is to be expected in this decade and even beyond.
This prediction has been made by the World Meteorological Organization which has done a detailed analysis based on the international datasets. Global temperature already has terrible consequences on the environment. Few of them already can be seen such as a rise in sea level, increased ocean heat, and extremer weather.
WMO also revealed that 2019 was the second hottest year after 2016. This was revealed through the World Meteorological Organization.
WMO chief, Petteri Taalas said, “The year 2020 has started out where 2019 left off — with high-impact weather and climate-related events.” He also highlighted the bushfire events in Australia which has been not under control for months now. This bushfire has taken 28 human lives and has taken millions of wildlife and will continue to destroy more if no notice will be taken on global warming.
“Unfortunately, we expect to see much extreme weather throughout 2020 and the coming decades, fuelled by record levels of heat-trapping greenhouse gases in the atmosphere,” Taalas said.
The Un has recorded that the past five years (2015-2019) were the highest ever recorded. UN agency pointed out that since the 1980s each decade has been warmer than the previous one,” and “this trend is expected to continue”.
Last year, the United Nation announced that man-made greenhouse gas emission was to be brought down by 7.6 % each year to 2030 since there was a need for limiting temperature rise to 1.5 Celcius.
Since 1850, the year the modern records began, the average global temperature has risen by 1.1 degrees Celsius.
“On the current path of carbon dioxide emissions, we are heading towards a temperature increase of three to five degrees Celsius by the end of the century,” Taalsas warned.
Chris Rapley, a professor of climate science at University College London said, ” The message repeats with grim regularity. Yet the pace and scale of action to address climate change remain muted and far from the need.”
