PM Calls Out World Leaders to Formulate a Global Strategy to Protect Laborers.

 “We need a joint strategy on how to soften the impact on LABORERS world over,” 

While addressing the ILO Global Summit on COVID-19 and the World of Work on Wednesday, PM Khan Urged the world leaders to formulate a combined strategy to protect the vulnerable segment of society from fallout during this global pandemic.

Speaking at the event organised by International Labor Organization, Imran Khan said that laborers are the hard-hit community that is affected by the ongoing COVID19 pandemic the most. Since the outbreak, most of the laborers, daily wagers and self-employed have lost their source of earnings.

 “The future is very uncertain and we don’t know how long the economy will take to recover from this lockdown,” he said, adding that labourers remain the most vulnerable section of the society in the wake of pandemic. He mentioned that this ‘informal and unregistered sector of economy’ is a big challenge for his government along with their families who are dependent on their income.

Furthermore, Imran Khan has also acknowledged the efforts of ILO and appreciated the initiative of ILO Global Summit Conference for being held at a critical time. “We would love to share ideas with the world; we would love to know what other countries are doing. Pakistan will keep other countries updated on the situation and how we intend to move forward. The exchange of ideas will, I’m sure, help us to solve our problems”, he said.

He also highlighted Pakistan’s efforts and steps taken by the Pakistan government to help the vulnerable segment of society. He said that first time in the history of Pakistan, an emergency cash program worked with complete transparency and helped millions during this pandemic. He further added Ehsaas Emergency Cash Program saved us from the worst effects of the lockdown.

More so, PM Khan said that most of the countries depend upon the remittances sent by the overseas workers, therefore, he requested all the host countries to be more sympathetic to laborers.

“We are praying that vaccines come out as a cure to the virus, but in the meantime, we need to share our experiences and exchange ideas to protect our vulnerable groups”, he emphasized.
