India tests nuclear missiles, amid tensions with China
India has test-fired intercontinental ballistic missile of nuclear type, with a range of 5000 kilometers from an island off its east coast amid rising tensions with China.
The Indian government stated,
“India’s policy to have credible minimum deterrence that underpins the commitment to no first use”, and the successful launch on Wednesday was in line with it.

The nuclear missile Agni-5 splashed down in the Bay of Bengal with a very high degree of accuracy, said the issued statement.
As the Chinese missile arsenal in Bejing has become powerful, India is driven to improve its missile systems, with Agni-5 having the ability to strike nearly all of China.
India is already equipped with weapons to strike in Pakistan.
For boosting its defense capabilities and to survive against the threat from China, India has been developing short and long-range nuclear missiles since 1990.
The tension between the two countries flared last year over the disputed border area in Ladakh. India fears that China might soon take control of the entire Indian ocean.
The talks between Indian and Chinese commanders also didn’t lead to any fruitful conclusion and the fights have been sour recently in the border area. This could be another of the biggest factors for growing disturbance in South Asian territory.
