Bacha-O.org, the idea of starting a new portal to promote awareness on the issue of child abuse in Pakistan wins a Top-5 spot at Tech Women 2019. It was an all-female team with five members. US Embassy Islamabad also congratulated the team through a tweet:
The team members consisted of experts from IT, AI and digital media. These brilliant women were Asmara Rahat, Ayesha Mumtaz Khan, Asna Javed, Zeenat Anju, and Farhat Yasmeen.
The team plans on providing wristbands to children for protection, curate hubs in community and AI chatbots for children, and deliver training to parents for awareness and encouraging them to report child abuse.
The team issued a statement regarding their mission saying, “Our mission is to reduce child sexual abuse in Pakistan by raising awareness and providing child protection tools, using a new digital platform called Bacha-O. Our objective is to make every child safe by activating the community and engaging all the stakeholders to reduce the number of incidents. A recent report by the Pakistani government depicts an alarming rise in the number of cases of child abuse. Children need a safe environment for societal growth.”
The teams showed their projects with Impact Coaches and developed their cases for the project in four weeks. Seed-grant was given to the teams so that they can implement their pitched ideas in their home countries.
