Governor Chaudhry Sarwar has constituted a seven-member committee of the vice-chancellors. Make the Quran teaching with translation compulsory in all universities in Punjab. Mr. Sarwar asked the chancellors for recommendations about how to make it a part of the syllabus.
However, the seven-member committee of VCs will submit the first draft of recommendations by May 10th.
Furthermore, talking to the press conference after the meeting on Friday, the governor Punjab said, its a responsibility of educational institutions to make students well equipped with Quran knowledge. Also, he says that it is compulsory for every Muslim student to attend the lecture of ‘Quran with Translation’
Moreover, the governor said that the Quran is the complete code of life. And knowledge of the Quran not only makes us good human beings but also helps us in winning the favor of Almighty.
Reportedly, once the committee will submit the first draft they will send it to the VC of other public and private universities and ulema in the province. However, they will discuss the feedback from all quarters on May 17. And the committee will submit final recommendations on May 22nd. Which they will implement in all educational institutions across the province.
The seven-member committee of VCs is lead by VC Punjab University Prof. Niaz Ahmed. Whereas, the following are other members of the committee:
- Prof. Dr. Masood Gondal of King Edward Medical University (KEMU),
- VC University of Education Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha,
- VC University of Health Sciences (UHS) Dr. Javaid Akram,
- VC University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Prof. Mansoor Sarwar,
- VC Government College University (GCU),
- Lahore Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi, and
- VC Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) Dr. Bushra Mirza.
