Two times Academy Award and three-time Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s new animated film Sitara: Let Girls Dream premiered in theaters in New York. The film has been written and directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy herself.
The story revolves around a girl who wants to become a pilot. It is 15 minutes silent short film in which girl’s life choices are dependent on the family. The story has been told through the eyes of Mehr, the younger sister of the protagonist, Pari.
It has been announced that the animated film will stream on Netflix and will be available in 190 countries. It will be distributed by Netflix USA. This is the first time a Pakistani animated film will stream on a giant like Netflix.
It has been reported that the festival is scheduled on 7th and 8th December 2019. She broke this news through a Facebook account which read, ” Peeps in L.A.! On Saturday, 7th Dec the LAAF 2019 (Los Angeles Animation Festival) will be showing our newest animation short, Sitara: Let girls dream, as part of their lineup.
LAAF is a festival that focuses on animated pieces from around the world. It has been running since 2007. The website of LAAF read, “This year we’re offering more networking opportunities and over $1000 in prizes, awards, and benefits, attracting both the best in international work and the cream of L.A’s independent studios and animators in a truly unique venue.”
