Taliban Frees US and Australian Hostages in Prisoner Swap as a Peace Gesture.

Afghan Taliban reportedly released two university professors identified as US citizen Kevin King and Australian Timothy Weeks later on Tuesday. They have been held by the Taliban for three years since 2016. In exchange, top Taliban figures named Anas Haqqani, Sirajuddin Haqqani.

This step of Afghan government is praised by many and considered as a step forward towards peace. Prime Minister Khan appreciated the step in a tweet and said “Pakistan has fully supported and facilitated this release”.

U.S. Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan John R. Bass lauded the announcement in a tweet.
