Cyber truck cannot endure metal balls shot at close range, however, it can withstand sledge hammers and bullets.
The unveiling happened at an event in Los Angeles, California. The Cyber Truck is Tesla’s first electric pickup truck comes in three versions with 250 miles, 300 miles and 500 miles. The price range of the vehicle starts at $39,900. The rolling out from assembly lines will be 2021 but preorders can be made at tesla.com/cybertruck.
In the exhibition, Musk puts the truck through its paces in order to prove the jaggedness. Tesla’s chief of design Franz von Holzhausen demonstrated the strike of sledge hammer on the door several times in claim to be bulletproof.
However, while proving it to be shattered proof the armored glass could not withstand the close range strike of a metal ball. “we will fix it in post” Musk said.
Cyber truck is available in three versions:
Single motor rear-wheel drive with 250 miles of range, 7,500-pound towing capacity, and 0-60 mph capabilities in under 6.5 seconds, for $39,900.
Dual motor all-wheel drive with 300 miles of range, 10,000-pound towing capacity, and 0-60 mph in under 4.5 seconds for $49,900.
Triple motor all-wheel drive with 500 miles of range, 14,000-pound towing capacity, and 0-60 mph in under 2.9 seconds for $69,900. (Though this version won’t start production until late 2022.)
The truck can accommodate total six adults according to Tesla. Ultra- hard 30X cold-rolled stainless steel makes the body hammer proof “bullet proof”. Truck provides a 3,500 pounds of payload capacity, with 100 cubic feet of storage space. Vault length of cyber truck is 6.5 feet with 4-inch suspension on either direction. Dashboard incorporates a 17-inch fully touch screen.
With the unveiling of another unexpected vehicle, Tesla has led the charge into long range electric vehicles. At the moment there no big market for electric pick-up trucks up for sale. However, the perception will change the moment this truck will be off the assembly lines and will be up for sale. In the race of producing long-range electric vehicles, Ford has an all-electric F-150 coming out soon, General motors also confirmed to unveil the electric pick-up by 2021 and EV startup Rivian, which is backed by Ford and Amazon is already been confirmed to be out by 2020.
With all these plans of releasing the Cyber truck, let’s see how things will turn out for Tesla into the already established market.
