Surveillance tools that have access to the information of our private lives are abusing this access. Putting such a technology in the hands of irresponsible companies that misuse such power puts all the users at risk.
According to the complaint filed by WhatsApp, the spyware was sent to about 1400 smartphones and devices from April to May. Among these 1400 users, at least 100 users were prestigious civil society members, journalists, and human rights activists. This spyware targeted some specific users for surveillance.
NSO, the company which has been sued by WhatsApp operates, distributes and manufactures surveillance technology.
