A recommendation of an increase in Federal Excise Duty (FED) on cigarettes has been approved by Senate Standing Committee on Finance.

This increase will be 100% and has been presented by Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif.

There is an increase of Rs30 per packet on TETON cigarettes. The standing committee on Finance also recommended increasing duty on high price cigarettes and lesser FED on low price cigarettes.

“Tax should be imposed on those who are paying more than 200,000 school fees yearly”, said PML-N senator. The finance committee has also approved an increment of 10% in salaries of government employees
