Only Pilgrims from Saudi Arabia Will be Allowed to Perform Hajj 2020.

“This decision is taken to ensure Hajj is performed in a safe manner from a public health perspective while observing all preventative measures and the necessary social distancing protocols to protect human beings from the risks associated with this pandemic and in accordance with the teachings of Islam in preserving the lives of human beings,” the ministry that oversees pilgrimages said in a statement.

The Saudi government has announced on Monday that no one out of Saudi Arabia will be allowed to perform hajj this year due to coronavirus. With all the preventive measures, only a limited number of Saudi citizens will be allowed as a pilgrimage maintaining social distancing.

However, Minister of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Noor ul Haq Qadri informed through a tweet that all the registered pilgrims from Pakistan will get back their money.

This is going to be the first time in modern history the Saudi Government has halted pilgrims to attend hajj. Every year around 2.5 million pilgrims typically visit the holiest sites of Islam in Makkah and Medina for the week-long Hajj.

The number of coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia has exceeded 160,000, with 1,307 deaths, following a rise in new infections over the past two weeks.
