Benami property worth Rs7.384 billion has been discovered by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). This property is a total of 77,513 Kenal. The matter has been directed for further investigation by FBR through Benami Act 2017.
This makes Rawalpindi the first district which has been taking action against Benami properties. 49 cases have already been taken under consideration by FBR with six references. Many private companies and PML-N Senator Chaudhry Tanveer have been identified as the owners of the property.
As reported by Commissioner Capt. (R) Mohammad Mehmood, citizens also helped in reporting 22 Benami properties.
In district Rawalpindi, 22 properties covering the area of 42,490 Kanal worth Rs. 3.736 million, in Attock, 16,009 Kanal worth Rs 2.98 million in rural Rawalpindi. Other properties were in Chakwal and Jhelum.
These instructions were given by Prime Minister Imran Khan himself in 2019 to investigate and remove the Benami properties in the country. The properties were divided in three zones which included Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
The references are issued once the Benami property is discovered. These references are sent to the FBR within 90 days.
