Today Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa expressed the deepest sorrow on the death of hockey legend Abdul Rashid Junior.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa said in a Twitter post“Today Pakistan has lost an iconic sportsman and a great human being. May Allah bless his soul and give strength to the deprived family to bear this irreversible loss, Ameen.”

On 4th November, Abdul Rashid Jr. had died at the age of 79. He was a legendary hockey player and former Olympian captain. The legendary player was suffering from kidney disease and admitted to a private hospital in Islamabad for treatment.

Abdul Rashid was the best center forward player of his time and was the only renowned Olympian to win gold (1968), silver (1972), and bronze (1976) medals in the Olympic games. At the time of retirement, he had scored 96 international goals for Pakistan.

In 1994, Rashid Jr. was also the manager of the national team and Pakistan won the Hockey World Cup in his reign.
