Donald Trump Impeachment: US President Under Investigation Spotlight.

US President Donald Trump was impeached on Wednesday by the Democratic-led House of Representatives for obstruction of Congress and abuse of power related to his dealings with Ukraine. 

Donald Trump becomes the third president in the history of the United States to be impeached. He has been impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors while in office, and he is the first president to be impeached in his first term. 

As reported by Al-Jazeera Two Democrats voted against impeachment, and one voted against the obstruction of Congress article.

The abuse of power article was passed on a 230-197 vote and the obstruction article was passed 229-198. All of the House Republicans opposed the articles. Jeff Van Drew, who reportedly said he will switch parties, and Collin Peterson voted against both articles of impeachment. Jared Golden voted in favour of abuse of power, but against obstruction of Congress.

Two articles of impeachment were voted on: the first charges Trump with criminal abuses of power, including bribing a foreign power, Ukraine, to interfere in the 2020 elections. The second article charges Trump with obstructing Congress’ impeachment investigation by ordering his top aides not to testify and denying 71 document requests despite lawful subpoenas.
