Govt Assures 20% Increase In Salaries Of Employees

Important progress was made in dialogs between federal government committees and protesting government employees. It took place on Wednesday night as the government has promised an increase in salaries up to 20%.

The government has assured a 20 percent raise in salaries of the employees and release of all arrested employees, stated by Rehman Bajwa, the Chairman Government Employees Alliance.

The government has promised them a release of notification regarding approval of their demands around 2 pm today. They are approaching the press club at the request of the government but will step backward towards the Parliament if demands were not met, he added. He further elaborated, they are not part of any political party and regretful for anti-government slogans during the protest.

On Wednesday, police fired tear gas at government employees protesting for an increase in salaries, pensions, and other allowances at Islamabad’s D-Chowk.

As a result, the protesters got violent and started attacking the policemen, with stones. Thus, the area turned into a virtual battlefield.

Later, the police arrested Employees Grand Alliance chief organizer Rehman Bajwa along with other 26 protesters.

The police also blocked all the roads leading to the Red Zone to keep the protesting government employees from converging there.

According to Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, the government and the protesters had reached an agreement on the salary increment demand. The government agreed to raise salaries of grade-16 officers and below, but they were asking for pay raise for grade-22 officers.
