Farmers of Punjab will not get any incentives even after the government has increased the wheat support price by Rs50 per 40 kg after there was a gap of 5 years. The reason might be a higher cause of production.

Wheat is a major food crop and has a sufficient production in Pakistan. Therefore, the cabinet always sets a minimum support price for heat every year.

The price in 2018 was Rs1300 per 40 kg as discussed in the ECC meeting. This year, the government has set the price Rs1350 but the production cost is Rs1349.57 per 40 kg which is almost the price set by government. This means that profit returns are very less.

However, the Sindh government is doing better since the production price is Rs1315.72 per 40 kg.

A source has revealed The Express Tribune that the cost production is being worked out by API. In order to determine an appropriate support price for the next crop, there are a number of factors to be kept in mind. These factors include the supply of wheat in the world, export and import prices, cost of production and domestic producer prices.

Punjab is the largest producer of wheat in the country. However, the province had opposed the increment of the price at Rs1300 which is less than the production cost. This means that farmers are bearing the cost of the production.
