Govt to Establish Pakistan’s First Payment Gateway to Facilitate SMEs.

Pakistan’s government has decided to establish Payment Gateway for the first time ever. The gateway will help remove the e-commerce payment barriers and will help small and medium enterprises grow.

There are international stakeholders are involved in this Payment gateway. Some prominent stakeholders include PayPal, MoneyGram, Visa, & Master.

The federal government has been taking steps to facilitate entrepreneurs of the country. The payment gateway is a step forward to help small and medium-sized enterprises to expand their business globally by making easy international transactions.

The decision was taken in a high-level meeting held to review measures taken for effective implementation of recently introduced E-commerce policy in the country. Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the government will take steps to make Cash on Delivery and Digital transaction systems more stronger and reliable. The proposal to wave off taxes on digital transactions and COD is also under review.

The prime minister said that the recent E-commerce policy will not only benefit small enterprises but also open more employment opportunities in the country. In order to facilitate youth, the Prime Minister directed SBP and Ministry of commerce to pen written guidelines about how to use this payment gateway.

The relevant authorities ensured PM that policy will be implemented effectively. Also, E-Commerce Export Board will be established soon for this purpose.

The attendees of the meeting include Prime Minister’s Advisor Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Secretary Finance, chairman National Information Technology Board, and senior officers of Ministry of Commerce, State Bank of Pakistan and Pakistan Post.
