Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has reportedly been roped to co-direct Ms. Marvel, a first onscreen adaptation of Marvel comics of this series. According to the reports, the Oscar-winning filmmaker will be working on the Disney+ series, which is based on the character of a teenage superhero Kamala Khan.  The main character is a Pakistani American. Moreover, it is the first Muslim superhero.

Previously, Marvel has revealed Kamala Khan's game as well. Kamala Khan’s character is a brainchild of Sana Amanat, Marvel’s editor, and director. It was co-created by her in 2014. Her inspiration was to create a character that young girls of similar ethnic or religious backgrounds could relate and identify with.

The two-time Academy Award winner is working with Adil El Arbi, BilallFallah, and Meera Menon to direct the series, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Kamala Khan first debuted in a Captain Marvel comic book series in 2013 and later got her own spin-off series in 2014. She is presented as the first Muslim character and the series showcases her embracing her “Inhuman” shapeshifting abilities for the greater good and her struggle of being Pakistani American in a religious family. The most exciting bit about this news is that the spotlight is given to a Muslim woman of color.
