The U19 team of Pakistan and India is all ready to take the spotlight in the first semi-final of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup at the JB Marks Oval, Potchefstroom on Tuesday.
It is the same ground that has a history of many legendary sports events. It has been Australia’s winning base in 2003 World Cup. It was the same ground where the Spain football team won its 2010 World Cup. African athletes choose this place to be their home for hardcore training. Right now the U19 teams of India and Pakistan are camped at this legendary field.
Both teams have had the bite of winning previously and are among the few prestigious teams with more than one World Cup win. India has four wins and Pakistan is the only team with two wins back to back (2004-2006).
The stakes always are high since the audience of the sub-continent is looking forward to supporting their favorite team.
Both teams have been pitted against each other previously in a total of 9 matches among which 5 were won by Pakistan. Now, the winning team will enter the finals which is to be held on February 9.
Pakistan has shown a remarkable performance in the tournament so far. They won with 75 runs in their opening followed by Bangladesh win in which the team restricted its opponent to 106 for 9. The bowling work was genius in the match with Afghanistan.
Both teams have been mysterious with their plans. Pakistani team has not missed the chance of picking up the brain of the Indian team coach Rahul Dravid while they spent time with him in New Zealand back in 2018.
Both teams are not giving out opinions or ideas about the game. On being asked about the game, Yashasvi Jaiswal, India’s left-hand opener said, ” I don’t want to tell you that.”
Similarly, Haider Ali who is the new Babar Azam of Pakistan was asked about his favorite thing about India’s playing style, he said, ” I’ll tell you after the game. How can I tell you right now?”
Unlike other teams who are often seen waving at each other, the team of Pakistan and India do not seem to get along.
However, Haider Ali displayed confidence in his batting. He said Haider Ali said: “I am happy with my batting form. I was playing well against Afghanistan before I got run out. But I feel confident that I will deliver against India. This is just another game for us and I don’t feel any additional pressure, I feel, I can do well in the match.
“My confidence is high after the Afghanistan innings. I know my importance to the team and I will aim to carry on the batting form and provide the team a good start against India. Former players and experts have admired my batting which makes me happy and motivates me to do well in the upcoming games.”
Both teams have kept their quiet and are handling the situation by keeping a poker face.
