5 names chosen for vacant HEC seat of Sania Nishtar

Federal Higher Education Commission (HEC) members have nominated five names for the unoccupied seat of Commission member Sania Nishtar. The names include three former chairmen of the HEC, Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman, Dr. Javed Leghari, and Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed.

The other two names are Director Sustainable Institute Abid Qayyum Silhari and former vice-chancellor of Punjab University Dr. Mujahid Kamran. The meeting of the Commission was led by Secretary Education and Professional Training Farah Hamid Khan on Monday. Shahnaz Wazir Ali stated in the meeting that why names are being designated for the Commission in such an urgency.

Sania Nishtar had resigned from the post in November 2019. Javed Iqbal, a member of the Commission, also Former VC Balochistan University, admired the action to remove Dr. Tariq Banuri from the post, whereas some members condemned it and considered it pointless.

The situation became interesting during the meeting when it was mentioned that it had been informed that Dr. Tariq Banuri had got a stay, so the meeting is unlawful.

However, at that moment, Dr. Shams Qasim Lakha, a member of the Commission, said to be patient as it will be identified, but then it was decided that only the names who should be selected for the member of the Commission, should be sent to the prime minister.
