Facebook has made the decision of launching a digital literacy program next year in 2020 since Pakistan is one of the top listed countries to make requests for blocking content. The program is designed to create an awareness among the users to maximize the benefits of the technology.

Facebook officials made the big news to a group of reporters on Thursday saying, “In Pakistan, we are planning to launch a digital literacy program next year 2020 to help users to get best benefit of technology.”

The representatives of Facebook highlighted that there are 41 million users in Pakistan and the number will increase with the introduction of 5G technology. It was also reported that women in Pakistan do not feel safe using the internet resulting in the loss of many important users.

Amber Hawkes, head of Safety Policy Asia -Pacific visiting Pakistan announced a partnership with DRF through which different complaint cases and unwarranted content or images will be banned for being displayed on Facebook.

This will help children and women from bullying and harassment. It can also help in preventing honor killings since images meant to objectify also result in chaos and often cause security problems for women and children.

A special tool NCCI has been designed for safety in order to help us find out objectionable content and removal on time. This content includes shared material, pictures/videos which have been uploaded without the consent of the original curator. Males can also register a complaint under Section 24 Cyber Stalking law.
