The winner of Mrs. Sri Lanka suffered head injuries as her crown was aggressively snatched in an on-stage fight on Sunday.
The ceremony was held on national television during which the winner “Pushpika De Silva” was being crowned as the winner of Mrs. Sri Lanka.
But, 2019 winner “Caroline Jurie” removed De Silva’s crown aggressively saying that as she was a divorced woman, she was wrongfully claimed as the winner.
She proceeded to put the crown on the runner-up as De Silva sadly walked off stage.
"There exists a policy that restricts women who have already been married and are divorced, so I am taking measures to take the crown to the next best person," Jurie told the audience.
Upon inquiring about Jurie’s claims, show organizers came to know that De Silva was not a divorcee.
Although organizers have excused De Silva, who is separated but not divorced, she will still move along with permissible action over the "awkward and insulting" behaviour she faced on the stage.
She disclosed that she went to the hospital for her injuries in a post on Facebook.
"I'm an un-divorced woman yet," she mentioned.
